Rimon Pomegranate Dessert Wine NV
This is pomegranate wine, made from pomegranates instead of grapes. The wine is quite good, very sweet, and full bodied. The wine lasts indefinitely in the refrigerator after opening.
One of my friends particularly enjoyed this wine: she is allergic to grapes and cannot drink wine or grape juice. This is the first wine she has enjoyed in many years.
One note on Jewish law. Since this wine is made from pomegranates, it's not considered "wine" for the purposes of Jewish law. According to majority legal opinion, during the Passover seder one drinks wine — which would exclude this pomegranate wine.
However, if someone is allergic to grapes and cannot consume wine or grape juice, yet wishes to drink the Four Cups during the seder, that person can rely on the minority opinion that any "drink of country" is valid for the Passover seder. This wine would make a fine Passover alternative for those individuals.
