H. Perrodo Chateau Labegorce Marguax 2001
I admit it: I'm stumped. I was certain I had a review of this wine somewhere on this web site — after all, I've finished the last bottle in a case of this wine — yet I don't seem to have one.
Well then, time to repair that deficiency with a final review of this vintage. I purchased a case of this wine because it was a bargain: a fine Bordeaux at a good price and the ability to improve for several years in the cellar. The wine easily stands up to a meal of meat or chicken, but is also a very decent accompaniment for most other foods as well, and over the life of this vintage I've tried many different parings. A few month back I made the decision to finish off the case because a bottle I'd opened was a bit lower in quality than previously.
I recently opened my last bottle, and I seem to have made a mistake. Perhaps the wine was going through some sort of a transition, but the last bottle in the case was very good yet seemed to have room to improve with even further aging.
I don't believe the 2001 vintage is available any longer, but I will certainly try the 2003 and see if it's worth cellaring.
