The Kosher Wine Review

Noah

Tevel Merlot 2002

Rating: 3

My very first impression of the wine was of plums and of black cherries; for once I agree with a wine's label, which had exactly the same description. These strong flavors helped mute the dryness of the wine and were very enjoyable.

Surprisingly, just two hours after I opened the bottle, the wine started to deteriorate. I recommend that this vintage be enjoyed sooner rather than later.

I did have some disagreement with my fellow tasters. They were inclined to rate the wine more highly than I did, perhaps a 3.5 or a 4. While I highly respect their opinion (the gentleman who rated the wine a 4 owns a far finer wine cellar than I do) I continue to rate this wine a 3, mainly because I found the finish of the wine to be more bitter than I prefer.
