Hafner is starting to import kosher wines to the US, and I caught up with them at Vinexpo Americas. I have seen wines from central Europe before, but these are the first kosher wines I've seen from Austria.
Blaufrankisch is a grape I haven't tasted before; if I have to compare it to something, I choose Cabernet Sauvignon but without the chalkiness. The wine spent eighteen months in French oak casks, which has smoothed off all the rough edges.
This wine is very good, with a solid flavor and a medium to full body that will withstand pairing with red meat or cheese. I also suspect very strongly that the wine will mature gracefully, I'm thinking of holding onto a bottle for few more years -- at least, once the wine arrives at my local store.
