The Kosher Wine Review

Chateau du Quint

Lalande de Pomerol 1999

Rating: 3

My guests and I disputed over this wine, but because I'm the reviewer, I win.

The wine is very pleasant and non-aggressive, and all my wine-drinking guests enjoyed it with our Purim meal. The wine went well with our wildly-mixed set of dishes -- hot and spicy peanut/chicken, schnitzel, and steak.

But although my guests enjoyed it, I felt the wine was too bland. It's the typical Bordeaux mix (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Frank), and I expected something a bit more challenging with underlying complexity. There's no question the wine tasted good, but I expected more from it. But maybe it was me -- certainly I was outvoted. Maybe I've become too accustomed to wines with lots of tannin.

In summary, then, it's a good wine, but (at present) I can't call it very good or great.
